On the order of a scenography for a photo exhibition in the Gallery of the frontage of the Maison de la Pierre, located in the former stone quarries of Saint-Maximin, the ateliergh develops a flexible and lasting museographic device to assist the gallery in the spatial setting of these exhibitions. A fragmented white block, which can be lifted as needed.
Long dominated by the legendary “White Cube”, the exhibition space finally frees itself from the usual scenic constraints with the “White Block”.
This new scenographic device allows you to reconfigure the exhibition space according to the needs and parameters of the place.
Inspired by the stone blocks found in quarries, the White Block consists of five stand-alone modules that nest or separate, settle and re-dispose indefinitely in a given space.
“These structures, “laid” in the middle of the hall, echo the apparent abandonment of stone blocks within a quarry.
” The walls of these monoliths, whether they are presented in a contiguous way or in a splinter-shaped version of space, become concrete or supports that can accommodate documents or works to be laid, hung or slipped. It is also possible to sit there since two of the blocks are also designed to serve as a seat.
Together or separated from each other, the elements of the White Block allow for arrangements that are adapted to the situation and thus make the exhibition space simply more dynamic, but also more user-friendly.
